GS1 Netherlands and Stack&Track work together to optimize the circular supply chain of return packaging

GS1 Netherlands and Stack&Track, an online platform for reusable packaging management, are starting a pilot to increase efficiency, transparency and sustainability in the (international) logistics sector.

The companies will work together by using the GLN register for GS1 Netherlands locations within the Stack&Track digital platform. In this way, users can identify and manage packaging flows (RTIs) in their network of trading partners, including receiving and shipping locations.

Through an automatic connection (API) between the GLN register and the Stack&Track platform, Stack&Track users can select trading partners from the GLN register. This locations database is part of the global GS1 Global Registry Platform (GRP) and provides up-to-date and reliable information about companies, locations and their mutual relationships. By using this, all parties on the Stack&Track platform have the same identification of organizations and locations. This ensures that data exchange within the network becomes simpler, more reliable and of higher quality.

Making the (inter)national packaging chain more sustainable

We believe in the use of harmonized location data within our platform and the collaboration with GS1 Netherlands as an international and not-for-profit, network and knowledge organization,” says Guido de Neve, sales manager at Stack&Track about the collaboration. “We expect to support more efficient logistics movement and thus cost savings and CO2 reduction through the use of correct data.”

By using a unique identification of locations and organizations with the GS1 Global Location Number (GLN), time-consuming and error-prone manual registration and administration of company and location data is no longer necessary. In addition, the quality of data improves through the use of the GLN register with verified master data.” adds Tom Quets, sector lead within GS1 Netherlands.

International expansion

The pilot in the Netherlands is planned for the first quarter of 2024 and will be expanded to Belgium, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom and France in later phases. On February 9, 2024, both parties will present their pilot during the Logistics Hub at Fruit Logistica, the world’s leading trade fair for the fresh fruit industry.
