AI-powered photo feature: automatic packaging counting

Within logistics, managing packaging is a time-consuming task. We often deal with large inventories and also with different types of packaging, which makes counting your packaging an unpleasant and an error-prone process.

To make this process easier, it is now possible to count packaging with just the push of a button. Through artificial intelligence (AI), types and quantities of packaging items are recognized and directly translated into the correct numbers.

The technology

This innovative feature utilizes advanced vision-technology, which is capable of translating a photo of packaging into the exact number of crates or pallets that need to be recorded. To enable the vision software to recognize crates in various conditions, it is continuously trained by the team. The Stack&Track team regularly works on the software. Photos are needed in diverse scenarios, such as full and empty crates, different types and brands of crates. External factors like rain, bright sunlight, and damaged barcodes also play a role in recognizing load carriers. The more the AI learns from these photos, the better it becomes at recognizing packaging.

Using the technology

The photo feature can be accessed through the Stack&Track app. You can easily download the app on your mobile device. To take a photo, the barcodes of the packaging item must be clearly visible as our technology recognizes them. If they are not visible, they will not be counted. However, it is possible to adjust the quantities later. The results are then immediately sent to your system, ensuring that your inventory visibility is always up to date.

The benefits

By automating the counting process, there is no longer a need to write down quantities and later enter them into the system. This saves companies a lot of time and costs. Additionally, all photos are stored and can be retrieved later if a dispute arises with a trading partner. This promotes transparency and provides an objective source of information to resolve any discussions.
